Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in both film, television and the theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe, the flamboyant lawyer from her role on the Showtime series Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. From the time she was a child, Nikki Kodjoe was a natural actor. In a Maryland competition for high school students she won the award for Best Actress. After working in theater and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she earned a certificate in acting from New York University. The first role she played as a character in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was a success and earned the most respect. It was then immediately followed by other films like "Boogie Nights Spark, Blue Streak". Soul Food received a lot of praise for her performance. Her TV appearances include Second Time Around and Empire. The stage was the place she appeared in a variety of productions in the beginning of her career. Born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to 7 years old, Contractor was well-versed in the world and an array of different cultures from a young age. She attended boarding schools at the age of 7 until 9 in London. After that her family relocated home to Toronto (Canada) which is where they lived for the rest of her childhood. Then, in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics, and was trained to become ballet dancer of classical training. She went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. It's a school for arts and sciences, where she did not only learn about theater, but also dance too. Contractor started acting at the age of 16, following nearly 10 years in dance. Upon graduating from high school she was awarded a full award to Toronto's University of Toronto, where she earned a master's degree in theater and a dual major in psychology and sociology. Following a semester at the University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the production Pericles in the highly regarded and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the lead role. The 92 productions she performed received acclaim from Canadian theater critics. Contractor was offered the opportunity to enroll in Stratford's conservatory, where only eight males and four females are selected for a 20-week crash course in classical theatre, which she was eager to take. She was scheduled to perform in the following season's production was confirmed. She was cast in the role in Hermia from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
